Damage
What’s up, all my friends?
Ah, you’ve done it again.
You’ve messed up once or twice,
But it is quite all right.
And I know that you know that you’ve broken again,
And I know that you know we can fix it again,
chorus:
There’s not much left right here for them or you or me to break,
The damage has been done.
Put up with more than any of the others could take,
I am not having fun.
And I know that you know that you’ve broken again,
And I know that you know we can fix it again.
Written as one of the Pond Monkeys first songs, Derek, Austin, and Alex all contributed greatly to the finished sound of "Damage." The lyrical structure and content were both greatly influenced by Nine Inch Nails. (It's pretty common for casual listeners of the Pond Monkeys' music to confuse them with NIN) This song is usually chosen as a performance opener because of it's repetitive, but fun, lyrics. It's not at all unusual to see some middle-aged guy in the backrow singing every word along with the band.
After Daniel joined the group, "Damage" (or "Damaged" as some still refer to it as) became a much more complicated song. Derek moved to drums, Austin moved to bass, and Daniel added harmony and texture on guitar. After many failed attempts at keeping a strong tamborine beat, Alex returned to rhythm guitar.
